Scotland has been voted the most beautiful country in the world by a Rough Guide reader's poll and it's hardly surprising. You can cover east to west in around 5 hours and in that time experience soaring mist shrouded mountains, mystical lochs and fabulous winding mountain roads.
Scotland is also land of the castle; be it perched on the edge of a loch, on it's own island or standing sentinel on a remote bluff, there are some 2000 castles in scotland, many of them now only a ruin or marked in a ledger, but there remains some wonderful examples most of which are happy to take in film crews.
